The first word is 头发 (tóu fa) which is a noun that means ‘hair’. A way of using it in a sentence is: 我照了一下镜子,发现自己头发很乱。(Wǒ zhàole yīxià jìngzi, fāxiàn zìjǐ tóufa hěn luàn.) I looked in the mirror and realized my hair was messy.
头等 (tóu děng) First class
Another word we can create with 头 (tóu) is 头等 (tóu děng). This means ‘first class’. Let’s again look at each character of this word, 头 (tóu) means ‘head’ and 等 means ‘level’. When booking a flight, you may come across the question经济舱、公务舱还是头等舱?(Jīngjì cāng, gōngwù cāng háishì tóuděng cāng?)
过头 (guò tóu) To overdo
Finally, we can create the word 过头 (guò tóu) which means ‘to overdo’. The 过 here means ‘to pass’. A way of using it in a sentence is 别太兴奋过头了。(Bié tài xīngfèn guòtóule.) Don’t get too excited.
