质量 (zhì liàng) Quality
The first word is 质量 (zhì liàng) which means ‘quality’. A way of using it in a sentence is 这件衣服的质量不好。(Zhè jiàn yīfu de zhìliàng bù hǎo.) The quality of this garment isn’t good.
重量 (zhòng liàng) Weight
Another word we can create with 量 (liàng) is 重量 (zhòng liàng). This means ‘weight’ Let’s again look at each character of this word, 重 means ‘heavy’ and 量 means quantity’, so how heavy something is. A way of using it in a sentence is 草莓通常按重量卖。(Cǎoméi tōngcháng àn zhòngliàng mài.) Strawberries are normally sold by weight.
热量 (rè liàng) Calorie
Finally, we can create the word 热量 (rè liàng) which means ‘calorie’. The 热 here means ‘hot’. A way of using it in a sentence is 热量高的食物有哪些？(Rèliàng gāo de shíwù yǒu nǎxiē?) What foods are high in calories?
