Today’s word of the day is 意 (yì) which means ‘meaning’. Let’s practice by making different words, phrases, and sentences with 意 (yì).
故意 (gù yì) On purpose
The first word is 故意 (gù yì) which means ‘on purpose’ or deliberately. A way of using it in a sentence is 他故意打我。 (Tā gùyì dǎ wǒ.) He hit me on purpose. This is something a sibling might say to their parents if they had a fight with another sibling.
意外 (yì wài) Accident
Another word we can create with 意 (yì) is 意外 (yì wài). This means 'accident'. Let’s look at each character of this word, 意 means meaning and 外means outside, so this literally means ‘outside the intended meaning’. A way of using it in a sentence is 他在工作中出了意外。(Tā zài gōngzuò zhōng chūle yìwài.) He had an accident at work.
创意 (chuàng yì) Creativity
Finally, we can create the word 创意 (chuàng yì) which means creativity. The 创 here means to create. A way of using it in a sentence is 你的想法很有创意。(Nǐ de xiǎngfǎ hěn yǒu chuàngyì.) Your idea is very creative.
