The first word is 另外 (lìng wài) which means ‘another’. A way of using it in a sentence is 我想另外买一个。(Wǒ xiǎng lìngwài mǎi yīgè.) I want to buy another one. You can say this when you are in the shop and want to buy more than one item.
意外 (yì wài) Accident
Another word we can create with 外 (wài) is 意外 (yì wài). This means ‘accident’. Let’s again look at each character of this word, 意 means meaning and 外means outside. A way of using it in a sentence is 我昨天意外地遇到了他。(Wǒ zuótiān yìwài de yù dàole tā.) I accidentally bumped into him yesterday.
外向 (wài xiàng) Outgoing
