Today's podcast will be just before Christmas day on the weekend. That’s why we’ll be looking at three Christmas-related words today.
圣诞节 (shèng dàn jié) Christmas
The first word of course is 圣诞节 (shèng dàn jié) which means Christmas. You can wish your family and friends a happy Christmas by saying 圣诞节快乐！(Shèngdàn jié kuàilè!) Happy Christmas!
圣诞老人 (shèng dàn lǎo rén) Santa Claus
Another Christmas-related word we can create is 圣诞老人 (shèng dàn lǎo rén). This means Santa Claus but did you know it literally means ‘Christmas old man?’ A sentence you can create is 你小时候相信有圣诞老人吗? (Nǐ xiǎoshíhòu xiāngxìn yǒu shèngdàn lǎorén ma?) Did you believe in Santa Claus when you were young?
麋鹿 (mí lù) Reindeer
Finally, we can create the word 麋鹿 (mí lù) which means reindeer. A way of using it in a sentence is 圣诞老人乘着由麋鹿拉的飞天雪橇。(Shèngdàn lǎorén chéngzhe yóu mílù lā de fēitiān xuěqiāo.) Santa Claus rode a flying sleigh that was pulled by reindeers.
