The first word is 虽然 (suī rán) which means ‘although’. A way of using it in a sentence is 虽然下雨了，但是我还是想出门。(Suīrán xià yǔle, dànshì wǒ háishì xiǎng chūmén.) Although it is raining, I still want to go out.
然后 (rán hòu) Then
Another word we can create with 然 (rán) is 然后 (rán hòu). This means ‘then’. Let’s again look at each character of this word, 然 means ‘right’ and 后 means ‘after’. Finally, we can create the word 固然 (gù rán) which means ‘undoubtedly’. The 固 here means firm. A way of using it in a sentence is 成功固然好，但需要付出很多的努力。(Chénggōng gùrán hǎo, dàn xūyào fùchū hěnduō de nǔlì.) Success is good, but it undoubtedly requires a lot of hard work.
