虽然 (suī rán) Although
The first word is 虽然 (suī rán) which means ‘although’. A way of using it in a sentence is 虽然下雨了,但是我还是想出门。(Suīrán xià yǔle, dànshì wǒ háishì xiǎng chūmén.) Although it is raining, I still want to go out.
然后 (rán hòu) Then
Another word we can create with 然 (rán) is 然后 (rán hòu). This means ‘then’. Let’s again look at each character of this word, 然 means ‘right’ and 后 means ‘after’. A way of using it in a sentence is 我们可以先吃点东西,然后再上课。(Wǒmen kěyǐ xiān chī diǎn dōngxi, ránhòu zài shàngkè.) We can first grab some food and then go to class.
固然 (gù rán) Undoubtedly
Finally, we can create the word 固然 (gù rán) which means ‘undoubtedly’. The 固 here means firm. A way of using it in a sentence is 成功固然好,但需要付出很多的努力。(Chénggōng gùrán hǎo, dàn xūyào fùchū hěnduō de nǔlì.) Success is good, but it undoubtedly requires a lot of hard work.
