努力 (nǔ lì) Effort
The first word is 努力 (nǔ lì) which means effort. A way of using it in a sentence is: 我会努力地学习汉语。(Wǒ huì nǔlì de xuéxí hànyǔ.) I will study the Chinese language hard.
活力 (huó lì) Vitality
Another word we can create with 力 (lì) is 活力 (huó lì). This means vitality. Let’s look at each character of this word, 活 means to live, and 力means energy. A way of using it in a sentence is 他充满了青春和活力。(Tā chōngmǎnle qīngchūn hé huólì.) He is full of youth and vitality.
无力 (wú lì) Powerless
Finally, we can create the word 无力 (wú lì) which means powerless. The 无 here means without, so the word literally means ‘without power’. A way of using it in a sentence is 他的声音有气无力。(Tā de shēngyīn yǒuqìwúlì.) His voice was powerless. 有气无力 is a set expression which literally means ‘to breathe without power” but overall means powerless.
