Today’s word of the day is 常 (cháng) which means often. Let’s practice by making different words, phrases, and sentences with 常 (cháng).
常常 (cháng cháng) Often
The first word is 常常 (cháng cháng) which is an adverb that means often. A way of using it in a sentence is 他常常去伦敦出差。(Tā chángcháng qù lúndūn chūchāi.) He often goes on business trips to China.
经常 (jīng cháng) Often
Now a very similar word is 经常 (jīng cháng) which also means often or common. Now a difference here is that 经常 can be used to express an action in the future whereas 常常 cannot. For example, you can say 我以后会经常做运动。(Wǒ yǐhòu huì jīngcháng zuò yùndòng.) I will exercise often going forward. You cannot use 常常 in the same way.
正常 (zhèng cháng) Normal
Finally, we can create the word 正常 (zhèng cháng) which means normal or regular. A way of using it in a sentence is 他的脉搏正常吗? (Tā de màibó zhèngcháng ma?) Is his pulse normal?
